Dojo Search
As you may or may not have heard, we are looking for a new dojo. There are a number of reasons for this:
- Increased practice space
- Able to use our Judo mats which are in storage (much better to fall on)
- Ability to offer more practice time
- Ability to offer more different classes (begginer, kids, intermediate, advanced)
- Greatly increased flexibility in dojo use ( we can practice or schedule special events anytime we want)
We are looking to lease or if the conditions are right purchase a property, it should have the following minimum specifications:
- 2400-4000 square feet of mostly open floor space
- Bathroom
- Heat
- Parking.
- Target lease rate: $1500 per month or less
As Rod sensei announced at practice last night, whoever finds the location that is chosen for our new dojo will receive on year of free Judo practice at Obukan!!!!!

2012 Planning
We are starting the planning and budgeting process for Obukan for 2012. Now is the time for you to let us know what you would like Obukan to do in 2012. Please send email to [email protected] with your ideas of things you would like to see Obukan do in 2012, and any other comments or suggestions regarding doing Judo at Obukan (including things that you do not like). Some of the events we are considering for 2012 include:
- Obukan Tournament
- Shochugeiko and Kangeiko (summer and winter intensive training)
- 1 Week Judo training trip to Japan
- A Judo seminar with Fukushima sensei and other Kodokan sensei
- Sponsorships for people to attend National Level Judo tournaments
- Attending at least 2-3 Regional Judo Tournaments
- Obukan picnic and other social events
